Submission

General Guidelines
  1. Your submitted story must be an original work of which you are the sole author.
  2. Your entry must not exceed 3,500 words.
  3. Your cover page should include the following items:
    • your name,
    • fiction title,
    • contact information with address, email address, and phone number,
    • word count,
    • note on how you heard about coffeehousefiction.com.

    Cover pages are removed so that each submission can be read anonymously. If the author's name appears anywhere except the cover page, the entry can not be judged. Do not send acknowledgements, list of previous publications, or a biographical note.

  4. The title and page number should be included in the header of each page.
  5. Send only one copy of your short fiction work.
  6. You may make multiple entries (see special instructions for postal and email submission below).

US Mail Submission
  1. Send your entry to:

  2. Make your check payable to Coffeehousefiction.com. Write your title in the memo area of the check. You may also use your credit card to pay with Paypal. Please see the Paypal instructions in "Email Submission" and remember to include Transaction Confirmation Number on the cover page of your entry.
  3. Include a self-addressed, stamped postcard if you would like notification that the entry has reached Coffeehousefiction.com. Notification will include your log number for the competition. Please use this number in corresponding with Coffeehousefiction.com regarding your entry.
  4. Multiple entries may be mailed in one envelope with a single check for total entry fees, and a single post card. Separate log numbers for each entry will be recorded on the post card and mailed back to you.
  5. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you would like notification of contest results, or if you elected to have your work critiqued and included the optional critique fee.
  6. Do not include an envelope for the return of your entry. Entries can not be returned.

Email Submission
  1. Pay your entry fee by sending the fee to contest@coffeehousefiction.com using PayPal. Click on the tab that says "Send Money". You may use your credit card. (You now do need a Paypal account to send money. The site will ask you to set one up. It only takes a minute, but if you don't wish to do this, you can still submit electronically and mail a check. Be sure to put your title in the memo area of the check.)
  2. When you have completed the transaction, record the Transaction Confirmation Number.
  3. Add the Paypal Transaction ID to your entry's cover page. The Transaction ID can be found by clicking "View Details of This Transaction" after you send the fee, or in the confirmatory email sent by Paypal to the sender.
  4. Email your entry to fiction@coffeehousefiction.com. In subject line please write 'fiction submission.'
  5. Your log number will be returned to you by email reply.
  6. Multiple entries connected to a single Paypal remission should be sent in a single email. The log number for each entry will be returned to you by a single email reply.

Judging and Notification
  1. Your short fiction work must be submitted in accordance with the Submission Guidelines.
  2. No entry fees or entries will be returned.
  3. This contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
  4. The decisions of the judges are final. Prizes will be awarded to entries that fit the standards, mission, and spirit of the Dame Lisbet Throckmorton Fiction Writing Contest.
  5. Winners agree that their names may be published.
  6. A list of winners will be posted at Coffeehousefiction.com ninety days after the contest end date and will remain posted on this site for a minimum of four weeks.
